  5. Once the horizontal lines of the plus signs 
  6. are aligned, rotate the horizontal power 
  7. drum (on left side) until the vertical lines 
  8. of the plus signs are overlapping.  Next 
  9. rotate the vertical power drum (right side) 
  10. until the vertical plus signs overlap.  Be 
  11. sure to overlap the mires as accurately as 
  12. possible.  It is often necessary to refocus 
  13. the mires during the measurement and 
  14. between reading the horizontal and 
  15. vertical meridians.
